Health LEADers

Historically the perspective of family members has played a powerful role in creating change in the way children and youth with disabilities and special health care needs receive services. Parents’ Place of Maryland seeks to create a network of families from across the state who will work to make changes and influence policy by sharing their experiences in a variety of ways.

Participants will:

  • Learn how health care reform impacts state health care systems.
  • Build skills in effectively communicating with health care providers, policymakers, and legislators.
  • Meet and work with other parents of children with special health care needs who want to make a difference.
  • Learn effective ways to create sustainable change on behalf children with special health care needs.

Topics Include:

  • Understanding Title V at the state and federal levels
  • Understanding the legislative process
  • The power of the personal story
  • Developing your story
