Understanding the CARE Act Funding Process
A training program for consumers

What is this training about?

This training program is designed to increase the effective involvement of persons living with HIV/AIDS in the Ryan White CARE Act funding process by:

• building the skills of consumers to bring their unique perspective to the CARE Act process
• increasing the number of experienced consumers willing and prepared to serve on review panels for grant funds that affect HIV/AIDS prevention and care services at the federal, state, and local levels.

Why should I attend?

This two-part training will help consumers:

• Understand the CARE Act funding process
• Understand the grant review process at the federal level
• Learn how grant review panels function and strategies for effective participation
• Analyze and evaluate a grant application
• Prepare an effective written grant review
• Identify opportunities for participation and collaboration at the federal, state, and community levels

Who should attend?

Consumers of Ryan White Title III and IV programs living with and/or affected by HIV who have demonstrated leadership abilities and are interested in learning about grant review processes. Participants are expected to participate in one post-training assignment (reviewing and critiquing a grant), one mock review panel, and up to two teleconference calls.

When and where?
