What is this training about?

REAP is designed for consumers living with and affected by HIV/AIDS to learn about the HIV/AIDS research and research opportunities. Consumers will gain skills to:

participate in local and national research planning/review groups
understand how research is developed and about consumer protections related to research
serve as a resource to Title IV peers, other consumers, and Title IV programs about research-related issues

Why should I attend?

This training will help consumers:

Understand the purpose of research
Learn about informed consent processes and other consumer protections
Understand how a research concept becomes a protocol and a study
Analyze and evaluate a research protocol and informed consent forms
Identify opportunities and gain skills for participation in research review activities at the federal, state, and community levels

Who should attend?

Consumers of RWCA Title IV projects living with or affected by HIV/AIDS who have demonstrated leadership skills and would like to learn more about and become active in research-related activities (review boards, research CABs). Applicants must be able to commit to eight months of training activities (two on-site trainings, homework assignments, and at least one teleconference call).

When and where?

The training will be held in the Washington DC area. Travel, hotel, and meals are provided. Dates to be announced. Please contact yvonne@ppmd.org for more information.
