Our workshops are presented free of charge to parents of children with disabilities. Fees for professionals are based on the workshop presented.
Our workshops can be scheduled individually or in any combination, and can be arranged for any geographic region of the State. If you are interested in a topic other than the ones listed here, we will try to design a workshop to meet your specific interests and needs.
If an organization or parent group, representing a specific disability, sponsors one of our workshops, we do request that enrollment be open to any parent who may wish to attend.

A basic workshop that reviews the process regulated by federal law, for identifying a child in need of special education or 504 services.
The IEP is the most important document in your child’s folder. This workshop focuses on the steps that a parent can take to ensure that their child’s IEP is an effective tool for serving their child with disabilities appropriately.
This workshop offers practical step-by-step information for using all your skills to influence your child’s education.
This two-hour workshop reviews when to file a complaint, introductory information on using mediation to resolve conflicts between parents and school systems and on the process involved in due process hearings.
This workshop covers the IDEA process available to parents when a child’s behavior may interfere with learning. Includes information on positive behavioral supports, FBA and discipline requirements under IDEA. This two-hour workshop helps parents understand the processes and discusses when and why a child may benefit from behavioral supports in the classroom.

This workshop is designed to address specific needs of the audience and match those needs to local resources. Participants leave the workshop with a list of local contacts!
This workshop offers practical step-by-step information to help families of children with disabilities and special health care needs sort through their health care plan options. Bring your open enrollment packet. Learn to read the jargon and select the plan that best matches your family’s needs.
Confused about how to navigate the maze of managed care? Learn the ins and outs of getting services in a managed care health plan. This workshop takes you through the steps of referrals, authorizations and other barriers to services and providers that children with disabilities and special health care needs utilize.
All health plans deny payment one time or another for a variety of reasons. Denials can and should be appealed. This workshop covers the appeal process available to families. Learn strategies that can make your next appeal successful.
The Medical Assistance (Medicaid) program in Maryland can be very helpful to children with disabilities and special health care needs. This basic introduction to Medical Assistance will explain the various programs, why they can be helpful, and who is eligible to apply.

The Parents’ Place of MD provides workshops on many related topics. These workshops guide families through the process of ensuring that all students with special needs receive the needed supports and services.
The Parents’ Place of MD provides training to members of existing local parent organizations and support groups to enable them to provide volunteer special education assistance for their members. Graduates of the Parent Advocate Training Program will be able to offer other parents of children with disabilities information about their rights under special education laws, provide support to parents as they seek to obtain services for their children, and attend IEP and other meetings with parents. The Parents’ Place of MD will offer ongoing technical assistance and information after the group is trained. This training program is presented by The Parents’ Place of MD.
