General Description:
The Program Director for the Family Peer Support Services (FPSS) Program is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the implementation and administration of a comprehensive statewide system of Family Peer Support Services. This program serves families and loved ones of individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, problem gambling, and/or co-occurring concerns. The Program Director will also manage the Good Samaritan Ambassador Project, which educates the public about the Maryland Good Samaritan Law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities –
Leadership and Management:
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for the FPSS Program and the Good Samaritan Ambassador Project.
- Oversee the hiring, onboarding, and supervision of entire FPSS workforce to build a responsive, authentic workforce using lived experience and knowledge of family peer support practices.
- Ensure all FPSS receive training to provide Family Peer Services in accordance with the Maryland Behavioral Health Administration
- Provide ongoing observation and feedback, identifying areas of success and necessary professional development or opportunities for improvement.
- Manage and document performance, including workload monitoring, family case reviews, strength-based feedback, and review of outreach plans to ensure contract deliverables are met.
- Stay updated on family peer support practices, trends, and new methods as well as regulations related to the Good Samaritan Law.
- Establish a consistent schedule for supervision, support, and training to FPSS Supervisors and staff.
- Advise PPMD on behavioral health family peer support program development and activities in alignment with any contract deliverables, including any expansion of programming.
Program Development and Implementation:
- Ensure the program meets its service delivery goals, including serving a minimum of 2,000 families annually.
- Oversee the development, facilitation, and organization of training workshops for families, including public education and outreach on the Maryland Good Samaritan Law.
- Oversee the collaboration with PPMD staff to maintain an updated directory of behavioral health resources.
- Ensure effective delivery of family peer support to families and loved ones that have disabilities and complex health needs.
- Ensures proper representation and partnership of PPMD with all stakeholders, including representation at behavioral health committees and partner events.
- Manage contractual relationships for subject matter expertise, consultation and/or coaching.
- Observe family peer support activities throughout Maryland by attending family events, training sessions, and individual FPSS activities to offer feedback and collect data.
- Assist in providing FPSS related information during Statewide or regional training as needed.
- Represent the program in relevant advisory councils and workgroups, advocating for the needs of families and loved ones.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field, business administration, health care management, public administration, or related field of study. Four years of additional executive leadership experience may substitute for a master’s degree.
- At least three years of experience in leading and managing programmatic and administrative operations in human services-related organizations.
- Lived experience with a family member or loved one affected by behavioral or mental health, substance use, problem gambling, or co-occurring concerns.
- Familiarity with state and local resources and the ability to access them.
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, Salesforce, SharePoint, project management and learning management software.
- Strong interpersonal skills, fostering strong relationships with partners, including a high level of professionalism.
- Work style fosters an effective team environment, using strengths and diversity to strengthen team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, multilingual is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and proactive in nature.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Possession of a current Maryland driver’s license and access to own vehicle; in-state travel required.
- Successful completion of a background check (required for all PPMD employees).
