General Description:
The Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) Supervisor is a key role within our statewide Family
Peer Support Services program. This position is responsible for overseeing and guiding the work
of Family Peer Support Specialists (FPSS) who provide non-clinical emotional support, practical
guidance, and information to families and loved ones of those who are experiencing mental
health, substance use, problem gambling, and/or co-occurring concerns. The FPSS Supervisor
will also play a crucial role in the Good Samaritan Ambassador Project, educating the public
about the Maryland Good Samaritan Law. The FPSS Supervisor must have lived experience with
a family member or loved one affected by mental health, substance use, problem gambling, and /
or co-occurring concerns.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Management
Provide individualized education and support to the families and loved ones of those who are experiencing behavioral health challenges, helping them navigate social, legal, educational, and healthcare systems.
Help families create their own community-based support networks, integrating their goals into comprehensive plans based on their specific needs.
Ensure families are active partners in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating their own plans.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with state and local agencies and service providers across behavioral health, physical health, social services, and other relevant areas.
Ensure the program meets its goals, including serving a minimum of 2,000 families or loved ones annually.
Develop and disseminate educational resource materials on mental health, substance use, problem gambling, and co-occurring concerns.
Collaborate with the other PPMD staff to maintain an updated directory of behavioral health resources.
Fulfill administrative duties including maintaining client files, submitting required documentation, and active participation in supervision and training opportunities.
Forge and sustain robust partnerships with state and local agencies and service providers across behavioral health, physical health, social services, and other relevant domains.

Supervision and Leadership
Establish a consistent schedule for supervision, support, and training to FPSS staff.
Provide ongoing observation and feedback, identifying areas of success and necessary professional development or opportunities for improvement.
Manage and document performance, including workload monitoring, family case reviews, strength-based feedback, and review of outreach plans to ensure contract deliverables are met.
Assist FPSS staff to support families who have a loved one with disabilities and/or complex healthcare needs, including health and disability needs, by ensuring collaboration with other PPMD staff as necessary.
Oversee the Good Samaritan Ambassador Project, training FPSS to educate the public about the Maryland Good Samaritan Law and its intent.
Develop, facilitate and organize training workshops for empowering families to advocate for the needs of their family member or loved one

Qualifications:
Lived experience with a family member or loved one affected by mental health, substance use, problem gambling, and / or co-occurring concerns.
At least two years of experience working within an agency that provides peer support services.
Prior supervisory experience and/or education in supervision is preferred.
Personal knowledge and experience in the geographical areas served, including knowledge of existing cultures, systems of care and resources for region.
Knowledge of state and local resources and the ability to access them effectively.
Strong ability to provide authentic family engagement through active listening, strategic sharing, and empathy to promote a reduction in stigma, non-judgmental relationship and feeling of connection to foster family engagement and able to translate skills to offer effective supervision to family peer support staff.
Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, Salesforce, SharePoint, project management and learning management software desired.
Strong interpersonal skills, fostering strong relationships with partners, including a high level of professionalism.
Work style fosters an effective team environment, using strengths and diversity to strengthen team.
Strong oral and written communication skills, multilingual is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills and proactive in nature.
Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
Possession of a current Maryland driver’s license and access to own vehicle; in-state travel required.
Successful completion of a background check (required for all PPMD employees).
