Anne Arundel County, Universal Design for Learning: Designing the Learning Environment to Support ALL Learners

UDL can be a powerful framework for educators who see how it can impact the learning environment they design or co-design. This workshop will provide attendees time to examine the UDL framework through the lens of their own role. Attendees will choose a tool or strategy to design a learning environment that supports a variety of expert learners. As a participant, you will:
- Examine how UDL can impact your area of education
- Design your learning environment using the UDL framework
- Share design ideas and practices with other participants
Dr. Nelson is an educational consultant whose work focuses on Universal Design for Learning. Currently, Loui is the UDL Specialist for the School-Wide Integrated Framework for Transformation (SWIFT) at the University of Kansas and is an international consultant on UDL. She guides schools, districts, state personnel, and universities interested in implementing UDL as a guiding framework and designing flexible environments. She is the author of Design and Deliver: Planning and Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning.
Dr. Smith is a Professional Development Facilitator for the Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education and has been a paraprofessional, special education teacher, behavior specialist, and statewide instructional coach. Dr. Smith is also a member of the CAST National UDL Cadre and an adjunct faculty member for the Wilmington University Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership.
