Baltimore County, Baltimore: “School Discipline and Using the Special Education Process to address Challenging Behaviors in School”
March 15, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
School Discipline and Using the Special Education Process to Address Challenging
Behaviors in School March 15 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Did you know that students with disabilities are two times more likely to be suspended from school than non-disabled peers and that suspension has been shown to be ineffective in changing student behavior? This workshop will review suspension trends in Maryland, including the disproportionate suspension of students with disabilities and African-American students. Additionally, parents and caregivers will learn about the discipline process for students with disabilities, how the special education process can and should be used to address interfering or challenging behavior, and how to be an effective advocate for evidence-based discipline practices.
