Calvert County, Prince Frederick: ‘The New IQ? Understanding and Teaching Executive Functioning Skills In and Out of the Classroom’

April 28, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

Executive Function Skills – What are they?

Teaching children to think – clearly and efficiently – is a universal goal of parents and teachers alike.  Thinking skills such as planning, goal setting, organizing, prioritizing, self-monitoring, accessing working memory, inhibitory (impulse) control and sustaining focused attention are critical to academic success at every age.  Most important, the development of these skills allows children to mature into independent, healthy and functional adults.  Executive function skills are the ‘how’ of learning.

Questions we’ll answer during this interactive, parent-focused workshop:

  • What are some important Executive Function Skills?
  • Where do Executive Function Skills happen in the brain?
  • Why do Executive Function Skills matter?
  • What resources are available to help teach EF Skills outside of the classroom?

Cost:  FREE  – Registration Required
