Frederick County, Frederick: “Pathfinders for Autism Brown Bag Lunch Series – Managing Tantrums and Meltdowns”

Thursday, December 8, 2016 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Managing Tantrums and Meltdowns Presenter: Dr. Sandor (Alex) Szollos Children and teens diagnosed with ASD often respond to discomfort, internal upset, external pressure, etc. with emotional outbursts, rage, incoherence and defiant anxiety/ anger. These commonly called tantrums and meltdowns may become their primary (maladaptive) coping strategy over time, posing major challenges for parents. Dr. Szollos will discuss parenting approaches to how to prevent, reduce and ultimately eliminate tantrums and meltdowns in children and teens and how to replace these “emergency responses” with more adaptive ways of coping.
