1:00 pm to 2:30 pm Socializing Safely in Cyberspace
Speaker: Drew Fidler, LCSW-C, Baltimore Child Abuse Center
As technology is constantly evolving, we must stay well-informed of all the dangers that threaten adults and children online. Children with Autism are particularly vulnerable to the digital world, a place where anyone can be anything and social interactions are easy to come by. Additionally, research shows that children with autism are four times more likely to be victims of abuse than the average child. In the anonymous, ever-evolving world of the internet and social media, parents and professionals are left wondering how do we help to protect the children in our care. This training addresses internet technology and social media, the very real dangers that it can pose to children with Autism, and how to neutralize the dangers and safely explore the digital frontier.
