Montgomery County, Rockville: ‘Building Social and Executive Functioning Skills Through Technology’

This presentation will discuss strategic approaches to developing social skills and executive functioning skills, along with a wide variety of technology resources aligning with current best practices in instruction in these areas. Related to social cognition and executive function across the grade levels, this workshop will provide an overview of apps, web tools, and other resources. Easy-to-access technologies will be demonstrated along with strategies and resources for improving executive functioning, self-regulation, language organization and using assistive technology for work production in order to access the curriculum. Social cognitive concepts of flexibility, perspective taking, and situational awareness will be highlighted to build conversational interactions and develop social play. To facilitate practical take-aways useful at home and school for parents, educators and clinicians, participants will be provided with hands-on practice time and support throughout the day, along with resources for independent learning.
