Part 2: Supporting Parents at the Time of Their Child’s Disability Diagnosis and Beyond: Practical Strategies for Healthcare Providers

October 28 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Communicating a child’s disability diagnosis to a parent can be stressful for care providers, as the diagnosis can have a profound impact on both child and parent health outcomes. Health care
providers who adapt evidence-supported diagnosis delivery protocols and culturally responsive care can better support parents at the time of their child’s initial disability diagnosis.
This session is designed to help participants
Increase their awareness and knowledge about the impact of not supporting parents at the time of their child’s initial disability diagnosis and beyond.
Learn about evidence-supported diagnosis delivery protocols for communicating a child’s disability diagnosis to parents and their families.
Discuss practical strategies for supporting parents and collaborating with systems at all levels to ensure positive health outcomes of children with disabilities and their
families.
Learn effective strategies to disseminate available resources and messages to parents and families in their practice and/or local communities.
